In 2015 we noticed that Leiden University was the only university in the Netherlands that was not participating in the Sustainabul. The Sustainabul is a ranking, set up by Studenten voor Morgen, to measure the sustainability of the educational institutions nationwide. So we started a petition and ended up convincing the executive boards that we really needed to participate. In the first year (2015) that Leiden University participated in the ranking it scored fairly low, 15th place. However, since then the University has improved and as of 2016 it scored 5th place. Green Keys Leiden Functions as the key advisor for the awarding of this prize. This year the prize was awarded to the student association of V.S.L. Warme truiendag (2018)
Leiden University will participate for the third time in the “Warme Truiendag” on February 2nd this year. Each year Greenchoice and the Klimaatverbond organise a national “Warm Sweater day”, a day to be conscious about your energy use and to collectively turn down your heating to save energy. On this day the heating in the classrooms within five of the 7 faculties of the university were turned down a few degrees. This was all possible in collaboration with the university and the faculties of Humanities, Social Science, Law, Archaeology and Science.
During this day free Chocolate Milk will be handed out to the students and information on how to live a little greener is also available. Because of the enthusiastic and encouraging reactions we received from staff and student we would like to call it a great success.
